Acura NSX Benchmark For Future?

I was reading a review of the NSX from extremetech and they think "in 10 years, every high-performance car will be like the 2017 Acura NSX: a blend of electric motors, turbochargers, a combustion engine, and sophisticated control of traction, suspension, and acceleration."

Anyone think this is true? Will brands like Porsche, Audi, Ferrari, etc follow their lead in the future?

This I think is pretty obvious. The new Ford GT for example, six banger, twin turbo, just missing the electric motors which is the future. A lot of manufacturers are working on these electric motors to unveil, but there are a few full EV hypercars that will be stepping into the scene. The NSX brought it, and now they'll take what they can from it and improve.

Some may take longer than others to change over to hybrid but over time, they'll start offering it. I son't think hybrids will take over a brand's whole lineup but there will be more offerings.

I don't think they'll take over lineups completely either. 4 cylinders are just going to get smaller sized with turbos. Now with new technologies coming out as well such as variable displacement and variable compression ratios, they are going to get a lot more efficient.

In regards to higher-end performance vehicles, they will have to start integrating hybrid systems just because that's what is going on. You need to follow suit and get with the times in order to maintain yourself as a competitor.

Think? It's happening already, Acura didn't pioneer anything here, like many car makers out there they are following the norm of this automotive era.... we have the Porsche 918 and Ferrari LaFerrari. We're seeing it more on regular commuter cars but this era is where we'll see it more in sports cars and supercars. The next Supra/BMW Z5 will have a hybrid option.

Ferrari CEO, Sergio Marchionne, recently said that most, if not all of the Ferraris from 2019 and forward will be getting hybrid power.

Going hybrid would allow brands like Ferrari to produce more vehicles. Think they're limited on how many cars they can sell thanks to emissions requirements.

Yup ^

They're doing this so that they can meet CO2 goals. Once they pass the 10k mark (vehicles shipped per year) they'll have to sit under the requirements. If they want to increase volume, they have to go a different route. But they are promising that it may be hybrid, but they will be better performing as well.

People have been complaining about the NSX's weight due to the batteries and motors, Ferrari fans are going to throw a fit when it happens to them.

Down the road we might see something to the effect of the LaFerrari having the tech initially and then over time it being trickled down to all the other ferrari's. It's the smartest way to get people to buy those regular ferrari's by promoting it with "laferrari DNA"
