Acura Trademarks 'MSX' -- Could be Baby NSX

Last week, Honda/Acura filed a trademark for 'MSX' specifically for use with "Vehicles; apparatus for locomotion by land, air or water; and part and fittings for all the aforesaid goods."

The original MSX trademark was filed in 2012 and doesn't expire until 2022. It could be that Honda is expanding the range of the trademark and it will continue to be used exclusively for motorcycles, as it has been used in Europe for Honda mini-bike (marketed in North America as the Grom).

Another possibility is that the trademark will be used for a baby NSX.

Honda Expands MSX Trademark in Europe, is it for the Baby NSX?

If the name is already used for the Honda Grom I can't see them using it for a sports car and it'll be associating a performance car with a low powered 125cc bike.

True enough, but I also think that bringing the MSX name over to North America and putting it on a motorcycle would confuse people since NSX and MSX are such similar names.

I like the name, and most importantly for them it falls in line with now the rest of their model line up is structured, surely we know they want to stay as close to that as possible.

I guess one part of the puzzle that would be good to answer is whether or not the baby NSX is going to be released in both North America and Europe.

The MSX is called the Grom in NA. There's no confusion there.
The expansion is happening in Europe and I think the MSX trademark will stay in Honda's motorcycle branch only.

It's quite possible that expanding the trademark to where there's an MSX filed under different categories is what's going to make it happen. One as a motorcycle (current) and the other as an automobile.

Plus coming from the same brand it takes away from any possible conflict.

So is this really a non-story?

Only way I see this as a story is if Honda was to change the MSX to Grom in Europe to match NA and then use that designation for the automotive side of the company. Seems like too much effort just for a name IMO.
