Transverse to Longitudinal

Now having more knowledge of the NSX and engine specifications, it's shown that the engine placement has been changed since the prior generations. They have switched from the Transverse placement to a Longitudinal placement. I think it looks better, and it's said to improve the vehicles dynamics, however, how will it affect working on the engine itself ? How do you feel about the switch ?

But the big news here is how the engine is positioned within the car. Unlike the original NSX, the new production model will have its engine mounted longitudinally and not transversely.
Hideki Wakamatsu, Honda's operating officer and chief officer of technology development for drivetrain and e-drive told Edmunds that the change from a transverse layout to the longitudinal one happened recently after extensive testing, but that the change would not delay the anticipated on-sale date of 2015.
Not only does this layout simplify packaging (look at how much material is behind the engine now), but Wakamatsu says that the car is dynamically improved with this configuration.
The Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C, two of the NSX's benchmark competitors, also use a longitudinal midengine layout."

Driving dynamics and packing are the key reasons for going this route. Plus I think it looks better, just look at supecars like the Audi R8, Lamborghini Gallardo, etc.

Here's what Ted Klaus had to say about it:

In a conversation with Ted Klaus, the chief engineer of the new NSX, we were told that the layout of the NSX changed from transverse to longitudinal. The switch in layout was made to increase flexibility in the powertrain as well as for packaging reasons.

This made for a number of changes. Since the last concept, the NSX has grown by three inches in length and an inch in width. It's gone from a naturally aspirated off the shelf engine to a clean sheet design twin turbocharged V6 with a 75 degree v-angle. Right now, this engine will only be in the NSX and the entire hybrid system will make at least 550 horsepower.

At least. That's double the power of the old NSX. Double.

The changes allowed for better packaging of the hybrid system. It also let them have the ability to upgrade the system in the future since it isn't as tight. Yes, some of the weight of the transmission now shifts behind the rear axle, which does create some issues for weight transfer and packaging, but the team thought that the tradeoff would be worth it.

I don't really care either way on how the engine is mounted. For the NSX, they did it for packaging reasons and to make the powertrain more flexible. We've known about this since January of 2015.
