47 Computers

Found on Paul Tan, looks like the NSX will use 47 different computers to manage the software and electricals...

Finally, this is just amazing. It seems that the new NSX will have 47 individual computers to control the various electronics and powertrain systems as well. That is just super complex, and letís hope it all comes together when itís ready for production.

I don't know whether that scares or excites me.

If a part of the system malfunctions the dealership will have to scan all 47 different computers for the source of the error.
Wonder how big each individual computer is and what each one will be used for.

Yea, I'm curious why they need all those computers. How many computers do cars usually use?

When in doubt Wikipedia can give us a general answer.

Quote:
Automotive electronics or automotive embedded systems are distributed systems, and according to different domains in the automotive field, they can be classified into:

Engine electronics
Transmission electronics
Chassis electronics
Active safety
Driver assistance
Passenger comfort
Entertainment systems
I'm sure some of the listed categories will need more than 1 microprocessor.

More like how long it will take to scan to find the error code, not something i'd worry about. When in doubt, wait it out.

no they wont scan each computer individually. THey will scan the entire car and the car will point the tech to the faulty region...

Thank's for clearing that up for me. I'm not familiar of the scanning process but it's good to know that the tech people will not have to do it individually.

I think just about every vehicle is like that and has been like that ever since they got OBD systems and all. Simple process. Hardest part is actually resolving the issue.

Apparently, the NSX has more than 47 CPUs. It's actually no less than 49 CPUs. wonder what changed between the time the 47 CPU was reported and now to need a few more.
