First Acura NSX Will Be Auctioned Off at Barrett-Jackson

The very first production 2017 Acura NSX will be auctioned off at a Barrett-Jackson auction in January. That auction will take place in Scottsdale, Arizona. The proceeds will go to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and Camp Southern Ground.

Quote:
“The very first production NSX will be such a special and historic vehicle, so we wanted to make sure we treat the sale of it in an equally special way,” said Jon Ikeda, vice president and general manager of the Acura Division. “It will be available for purchase by anyone – anyone that is, who submits the highest bid for VIN number 001 at the world famous Barrett-Jackson auction. And we’re pleased to be able to support two incredible children’s charities, Camp Southern Ground and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, with the NSX.”

Wondering if all proceeds from the sale goes to the charity or if it's whatever that is left after the initial cost of the NSX has been subtracted. Not a lot depending on how much the first NSX goes for since the decked out model is $205,700 and I can't imagine the first one to come off the line is the base model.

Not sure about that. I think that it can fetch quite a bit more that the sticker price since it will have the first VIN number.

I bet the auction house will charge a fee that will need to be payed out, unless they will wave it just because a charity is attached.

According to this press release, 100% of the hammer price will go to the charities. Also, there won't be an actual car at the auction to bid on. They are auctioning off the VIN, not a physical car. The winner can then choose the options he/she wants once the configurator comes online.

Thought it would be pre-made and the winner would be able to drive it off the auction lot that day. Assume the winner is going to add all the options available once the ordering page is up.
If anyone is interested the event pricing is okay and you may be able to walk away with the first NSX Vin.

Scottsdale 2016
Tier 1:
$600 ($500 if application received by December 13, 2015)
Bidder Paddle w/drink card, Guest Pass w/drink card, Gala Invitation for two, Parking Pass (Limited quantity available for Lot 2-Polo Field parking) and Catalog
Tier 2:
$450 ($350 if application received by December 13, 2015)
Bidder Paddle, Guest Pass, Parking Pass and Catalog

Makes sense to auction the vin, it's a new vehicle, take advantage of all that you're open to... let them order it as if they were ordering a car for themselves.

Fortunately even if it was pre-configured, it won't take away from potential bidders.... not often you get an opportunity like this.

How much over the actual price do you think the winner will end up paying?

I would be surprised if it sells for less than $500,000.

That is quite high, it might be the case but I can't imagine it selling for more than 1/4 million USD.
