NSX Drag Race

Here's a drag race between the NSX and you'de think the NSX launch mode would give it a leg up in the race.

The launch mode gave it a leg up off the line which was quite evident from looking at the start. For what the car was intended for, it pulled a very respectable quarter-mile time. This isn't a drag car by any means, and it still finished merely short of third place right behind the GTR. Impressive enough for me.

It doesn't matter that it's not a drag car. What's disappointing is it didn't even get to 11 flat... and what's amazing is the 911S w/ only 420hp ran at [email protected] and 0-60 in 3.2 seconds.

But you also have to loo at what it's made for and purely straight line performance wasn't it. Plus this is just the beginning for the brand, so there's still lots of planned room for improvement to go. For the first time in 10+ years, its not that bad of an Acura supercar.

Many know it's not a straight line car... the point is- it's AWD, midengine, v6tt/hybrid, lots of techno features, etc... etc... yet still underachieves a bit when compared to cars it was benchmarked against... it immediate competitors. No I'm not implying for it to be the next-918 or P1 but at least come out with a definitive bang. Again the biggest letdown (which affects its performance metrics whether on straights or on curves) is that it's a pig. It's heavy... that affects it in a major way. Sure there's potential to improve... but come on now the 2nd gen NSX has been seeing setbacks for years and had ample R&D to at least match yet alone beat other cars in its caliber. I don't wear nor drink an Acura/Honda koolaid cap or cup so I look at these types of supercars objectively. My opinion... YMMV.

Not much they can do about the weight when they have to fit in an electric motor and batteries. That's one of the biggest setbacks and won't be improved until batteries become more compact and maybe even a smaller motor.

C&D have the NSX listed at a quarter mile time of 10.8.

Now, it is a boat in terms of weight. Tons of technology, AWD, its heavy. You need to understand what it takes to make an 11 second flat car in the first place. Can't just look at horsepower and think that'll equate to what the ET should be lmao.

Difference in times might have to do with tires since the standard tires were just meant for daily driving, nothing for serious performance. Even reviewers said on higher performing tires you can really get a feel for what the NSX is like.

In spite of the NSX's heavy body, it still performed very well in the race, 11.3 is a great time and I think it's similar to the ferrari italia's time.

The 458 Italia is somewhere in the 11.0 range. Of course given the driver, all of these times are subject to change. But tires definitely plays a huge role in all of this. A set of slicks compared to street tires can shave off easily .2 seconds. You can launch harder, hook up quicker, stay hooked up all the way down, etc.
