NSX Is A Jack Of All Trades

Consumer Reports is calling the NSX a jack of all trades and it kind of makes sense as seeing as how the car has different drive modes to suit your needs including a quiet one. It can do everything you need it to.

The AMG GT has 3 drive modes with I think 16 suspension pre-load settings in the cockpit. Variable exhaust as well for a quiet mode. I think every high end car now has multiple drive modes and a variable exhaust for quiet time.

Consumer reports is telling us nothing new, we all knew this before. The NSX is in a way a really tame GT-R that you can have confidence throwing around through the turns with enough torque and power to pull you through the straights, and at the same time like the GT-R be able to drive it everyday under any condition. It's an everyday car as Acura originally mentioned.

Just found a great quote that best describes the NSX and they call it a GT.

Quote:
As Jason Cammisa once said, a GT is what you get into to drive across the country. A supercar is something so uncomfortable that you don't even want to go to the grocery store. But then you get in, and you accidently drive across the country. So isn't the NSX just a hybrid GT that's shaped to look like an exotic?

That is something I can agree with to some degree. There are some supercars that aren't all that horrendous to drive across country. But the NSX should be classified as a hybrid GT car rather than a hybrid supercar.

Being an everyday 2 door, it's natural for it to be GT-like since GT's are mainly where people go for that level of practicality. You don't see that many daily driving a 911 or a 458 unless weather permits and they're not going too far.

The NSX is pretty much a hybrid Gt because of its practicality and the level of comfort that it provides, not something that every other supercar can claim.

What makes a lot of people think its a supercar is the way it looks. When you make something that visually fits the definition then it brings with it expectations. But like mentioned before this is just the beginning and Acura has more planned. So this is as "GT" as the NSX gets, take it for what it is.

The same can be said for the BMW i8 and the next one up will be the next generation Corvette since its going mid-engine and with that comes a change in design to look supercar-like. Even with that new vette people will say its a supercar when really its not.
