First Acura NSX SOLD!

Remember that first Acura NSX with the VIN No. 001 that's supposed to be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson? Well itís been sold for a whopping $1.2 million, thatís almost eight times the carís starting price of $156,000. Itís also managed to break the record for the highest selling VIN No. 0001 in Barrett-Jackson auctioning history.

The winning bidder? NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick and heís adding this supercar to his first-edition stable which also houses 2010 Camaro, 2011 Camaro convertible, 2014 Corvette and 2015 Corvette convertible. On that same day, he also purchased three VIN No. 001 Corvettes from 1955, '56 and '57. The proceeds from the NSX auction will be split between the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and Camp Southern Ground project.

For everyone else who doesnít have $1.2 million to spend on their first Acura NSX, normal customer ordering for this vehicle will open on Feb. 25 and at most, youíll be spending less than a quarter of what Rick Hendrick spent for a NSX with all the add-ons. Think of it this way, youíll be getting a huge discount compared to what Hendrick paid.

The biggest question now is; when will Jerry Seinfeld pay Mr. Hendrick a visit and what will he offer him for the first NSX?

Hendrick's net worth is estimated at about $1 billion, I'd throw that kind of NSX money around if I was worth that much.

At least the proceeds are going to a good cause and this seems to be a new trend with auto manufacturers. Ford auctioned off a Focus RS for diabetes research at Barrett-Jackson too.

You know that you are filthy rich when you have a collection of "VIN 001" vehicles at home.

Everyone else at the auction was probably annoyed that the same guy just buys everything. Leave some for the rest of them buddy.

What a good guy. At least the profits go to charity, so it's going towards a good cause.

Only the NSX profit goes to charity. Not too sure about the other ones but I Acura is voluntarily footing the cost of that first NSX for charity.

Most companies won't take money for auctioning a 001 VIN vehicle. i assume they would all donate to charity. But not every vehicle is auctioned by the manufacturer.
