2014 Honda NSX Super GT Race Car Revealed


The Honda NSX Super GT race car has finally been revealed at Suzuka Raceway, as the teams begin testing their vehicles for the 2014 season.

The Japanese automaker has already confirmed that itíll be replacing its HSV-010 GT race car with the NSX in the GT500 class for the 2014 Japanese Super GT Series. As we know, starting with the 2014 season, competitors in the GT500 class and all cars racing in DTM will use common technical regulations.

While the road car is expected to use a V6 hybrid setup and the HSV-010 GT was powered by a 3.4-liter V8 engine, the new car is powered by a mid-engine 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged 4-cylinder, mated to a hybrid system.

One thing to note however is that the HSV-010 GT was a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive race car and Honda has expressed a desire to run a mid-engine setup for its NSX. The race car is expected to make around 500 horsepower, similar to the rest of the GT500 field.

Going from a V8 to a turbo 4? That is going to be very interesting. Looking forward to seeing and hearing this thing in action because it looks absolutely amazing.

im still surprised honda has never sent a V8 engine to production, it would have been great of the NSX was a mid-engine V8 supercar

I wonder if the weight factor on why they went with the four cylinder instead of the eight. I'm amped up to hear how it sounds like.

I have no doubt in my mind that it did, weight is the biggest killer when it comes to getting the best track time. So having a super light chassis and body along with a smaller engine is the way to go.

The production model NSX will have a V6, so making a 4 cylinder do the job of a V6 and more isn't that hard when you have all the resources and budget these guys have

I wouldn't be surprised if that NSX GT chassis was made mostly out of carbon fiber to achieve a better weight to throw around the track.

If the NSX last for another 10 years maybe the next generation could have a turbo four cylinder. By then I think we would already have some fast four bangers.

im going to miss the big engine days, just about in all classes of racing they have or will be downsizing.

no more v8's in formula 1 cars... sad

turbos seem to be a way of the future for racing

lighter weight and more power.

Engine of the car is sound good to all for racer. And the fuel consumpumtion is also good of this car.
